Actions in Support of T1International Vigils: September 5 - 14th

In Person Vigils

Between September 5th and 14th, T1International advocates from chapters across the United States will hold a series of vigils to honor lives lost due to the high cost of insulin, culminating on September 14th at a national vigil outside Eli Lilly Lilly Corporate Center.

We will remember those who died due to price-gouging by the pharmaceutical industry as we call for lower insulin prices.

Virtual Vigil

Can't make it to an in-person vigil? You can join in our virtual vigil! It can be as simple as lighting a candle in memory of those lost, tweeting to show your supporting using #insulin4all, or taking the action below.

Eli Lilly Ethics Hotline Action

We are asking you to show your support by reporting an ethics violation to the Eli Lilly Ethics and Compliance Hotline. It will take strong legislation to change industry practices, but we want these companies to know the impact their prices have on real lives.

Instructions:

Dial the Eli Lilly Ethics and Compliance Hotline number: 1-800-815-2481.

Press 1 for English, or 2 for Spanish.

  1. Dial the Eli Lilly Ethics and Compliance Hotline number: 1-800-815-2481.
  2. Press 1 for English, or 2 for Spanish.
  3. A 90 second message will play explaining how to use the hotline.
  4. Press 1 to be connected to a communication specialist. You will speak to a real person.
  5. They may ask what company you’re calling about (Eli Lilly), if you want to give a name or remain anonymous, if you are an employee or customer, and “what store” you are calling about (you can say you are calling about a medication).
  6. Leave the below message. Feel free to add your own comments.
  7. The specialist will take down your message and may put you on a hold for a few minutes. Then they will give your “Report Key” in case you want to check the status of your complaint.

I would like to report an ethics violation of pricing abuse by your company.

In the United States, the price of Humalog insulin has increased by over 1200% since 1996. This insulin is sold for $20 - $40 per vial in other high-income countries, but many people have to pay $300 or more here in the United States. Your “half price” authorized generic, Lispro, is still too expensive at $137 per vial.

People with diabetes are dying because they can’t afford this essential medicine. At least 26% of people with type 1 diabetes report that they ration their insulin. Rationing will lead to more deaths and those that survive will suffer long term consequences, including blindness and amputation.

I am reporting Eli Lilly’s ethical violation of placing profits over patients through exorbitant cost increases on an essential medicine. The company must lower the list price of insulin to prevent more rationing and more deaths. Insulin is as necessary to life as water. Access to insulin is a human right.
