Communities of Color Working Group

The Communities of Color Working Group (CoCWG) looks into T1I’s work, its effect on communities of color, and offers suggestions and changes to ensure that our structure and ecosystem align with our Equity and Inclusion goals. The group’s work falls into the following categories:

  • Support: Mental health and self care support as people living with or caring for people with diabetes
  • Education: General awareness building within the diabetes community and beyond about what it is like to live as or care for someone with diabetes, aim to make more people with diabetes who are BIPOC and/or AAPI know they are not alone and connect them to resources
  • Community partnerships: Build partnerships with other health justice groups outside of the diabetes space to collectively achieve our goals and recognize the intersectionality of many health conditions
  • Internal practices: Input on T1International internal policies like hiring and retention, language usage, volunteer on- and off-boarding, crafting monthly call topics for key volunteers, etc.
  • Policy priorities: Collaborate with T1International on federal and state policy priorities, as well as other emerging priorities.

Join the Communities of Color Working Group
The working group is open to anyone in the diabetes community who is from a historically racial and ethnic excluded community. We also encourage CoCWG members to be engaged in their local Chapter and see themselves as #insulin4all advocates. If you’re interested in joining the CoCWG and are not yet connected with your State #insulin4all Chapter, we will connect you!

The CoCWG is co-led by a T1I team member and a Co-Leader selected from the CoCWG. The group meets monthly on the second Tuesday at 4pm PT/7pm ET to 5pm PT/8pm ET. The meetings focus on at least one of these categories: support, education, community partnerships, internal practices, or policy priorities.

For questions, to connect with T1International’s Communities of Color Working Group, or to support this work, please email T1I’s CoCWG Co-Leader and Advocacy Manager Molly Bond at
