T1International Statement on Scientific Independence and the Freedom to Speak Without Fear

T1International Statement on Scientific Independence and the Freedom to Speak Without Fear

T1International's Federal Working Group issued this statement in response to clinicians being removed from the ADA's 85th Scientific Sessions after sharing a published editorial on science and public policy — an event that raised serious concerns about academic freedom and the ability of researchers to speak without fear of retaliation. As a pharma-free, patient-led organization, T1International holds that scientific independence is not abstract: when researchers self-censor or institutions suppress open dialogue, people with diabetes bear the consequences through delayed progress and reduced transparency. T1International stands with researchers and clinicians who defend scientific integrity, and commits to continuing its history of speaking truth to power on behalf of the diabetes community.
