#insulin4all Petition Leads to Prescription Drug Pricing Bill for Indiana General Assembly

Last month, Hoosiers living with type 1 diabetes delivered to the Indiana General Assembly a petition signed by over 500 people demanding that the House Public Health Committee hear a bill to establish a study committee on rising prescription drug prices. Their efforts have paid off. Committee Chair Rep. Cindy Kirchhofer has set the legislation, House Bill 1029, for hearing on Wednesday, February 6th at 3:30 PM in the House chamber. Read more

Thanks to a grant from the Laura and John Arnold Foundation (LJAF), we have brought on board a US Program Manager consultant to help us build our grassroots State Chapters and give people with type 1 diabetes a stronger presence in policy-making. Sanofi and Novo Nordisk are celebrating the New Year with fresh price hikes on their decades-old insulin products. “Sanofi increased the price of its three main insulin brands by between 4.4 %- 5.2 % last week, while Novo Nordisk increased the price of its insulin products by just under 5% on Tuesday,” the Financial Times article said. Once again, shareholder profits will be increased on the backs of people with diabetes. Read more

I am not normally an angry or bitter person, but I am a mother who will fight for her children to the end. It infuriates me to tears to think that my child, or anyone’s child, has to pay extortionate prices for a medication that keeps them alive, especially a medication that is very inexpensive to manufacture. Raising My Voice at Eli Lilly

The whole experience of the demonstration showed me that I am not alone. My voice was heard. My daughter said throughout the day that she met great people. She also networked and built relationships with others who are supporting family members or close friends with diabetes, just as she supports me, and it showed her that we are all going through this battle together. Why I Protest to Fight for #insulin4all

I could not be more pleased with my experience at last year’s #insulin4all demonstration. I met so many wonderful advocates who joined me in asking for insulin pricing transparency. I now consider many of them close friends. Because of my participation I am now part of KOI#insulin4all, a grassroots volunteer advocacy group asking for insulin pricing transparency in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. What began last year as a “Should I go?” this year has become “I wouldn’t miss it!”. I invite you to join us this year in taking a stand. Read more
